When I want an outfit that is comfortable, stylish, not too dressy but not overly casual either, a denim dress never fails. I bought this dress last summer from J.Crew, and it is on frequent rotation in my closet from spring through the early days of fall. In fact, I wore it on a road trip this weekend to my parent’s house. This is a great dress for when I am working from home the whole day, but it’s one that I can also run some quick errands in and feel put together.
One of the reasons I love this dress is because its slight A-line shape gives it a bit of a retro vibe. Simple A-line dresses were popular in the 1960s. In fact, I remember seeing my mother in these type of dresses in old photos, and I always wish she had kept her clothes because I would wear them all! I know I can buy them online nowadays, but inheriting family pieces is much more special. This dress is no longer available but I linked a few similar options below.
In this outfit, I paired the dress with my leather Lucky Brand sandals. These are a new addition to my closet this summer and their simplicity makes them a great partner to so many different outfits. I always make sure that I have at least one pair of neutral sandals for the spring and summer that I can throw on with everything in my closet and these do just the trick.
I also broke out my striped pineapple clutch from World Market (yes, World Market sells clutches and handbags as well as clothing and jewelry!) and I love how it adds texture, pattern, a little color and fun to this look. This clutch is no longer available at World Market but I’m including a few other options below. Also, here’s a cute one from Amazon.
When the weather starts to turn a few degrees cooler, I’ll switch the sandals for some leopard flats and add a simple cardigan for another classic look. I am between sizes right now and recently tried this dress with a thin leather belt around my waist. I apologize for not taking pictures of that outfit, but the belt gave the dress a whole different look. If you have a dress, skirt, or even a blouse that has grown too big for you (or you just want to try something new) add a belt or even a scarf and see how you like the new look. You may be surprised. As I said earlier. I’ve had this dress for over a year and never thought to add a belt to it until a few weeks ago and I’m so glad I did. You can teach an old dog new tricks!
On another note, if you read my post from Friday, you’ll know that I recently became a Stylist with Plunder Design jewelry. I also signed up for the company’s Plunder Posse, which is a program in which they send you special pieces (1-3 items) each month for a flat rate of $25.00 with tax and shipping included. You can cancel your membership at any time. I signed up last week and received my first Posse package this weekend. I must say I’m in love!
This piece is not available online or in the catalog which makes it extra special! The silver necklace is 31 1/2″ long and is adjustable and the rose color tassel has about a 5 1/2″ drop. The silver earrings are about 2 1/2″ long. I promise to style these in a future post! If you want more information about Plunder, click here to view my website and the catalog. The pieces are beautiful and the prices are budget friendly. Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at email@example.com. You can also reach out to me on Facebook at cathyvstyle.com.
Have a great rest of your day!
