This weekend I visited my parents in N.C. and on the ride down, I tuned in to a radio show during which the host was playing a recording of him ordering food from a restaurant. The bit from start to finish was about 10 minutes long, and I laughed uncontrollably during the whole piece. It was the funniest thing I had heard in a long time.
I was laughing so hard that tears were flowing down my face. I thought about pulling over because I almost could not see the road in front of me. I’m sure other drivers were wondering what was going on, but I didn’t care. Once the bit was done, I wiped away my tears and composed myself. But I know I kept smiling for at least the next half hour.
The funny thing was on my return trip, I tuned into the same radio station and they were playing the same piece again! And this was at a completely different time of the day. Yep, I belly laughed like before until I was crying. It was great.
I think we all need a laugh like this at least a few times a week in our lives. It feels so good to laugh at something with your body, heart and soul. Turns out, there are reasons why a belly laugh is good for you.
Several articles have been written about how laughing lowers stress, releases certain neurochemicals that calm you down, and even airs out “dead space” in the lungs. One article stated that laughing compares to a proper diet and exercise when it comes to keeping you healthy and free of disease. While laughter may not be THE best medicine, it definitely ranks up there as one of the best (and cheapest).
I was laughing a lot when my son was taking these photos. We started off serious enough but that soon deteriorated when my son told me to pretend I was posting for a mug shot. Then he told me to do a little “jig.” I’m not the best “jig” dancer and I think you’ll agree with me after you see these photos. But that didn’t matter; we were having a good time and laughing up a storm. I giggled again when I pulled up these photos for this post.
Flannel for Fall
This is a great fall outfit. The red flannel top is a classic fall piece and is warm and soft (you can see another flannel top outfit here). My flare jeans and fringe purse add an element of fun, while my gold jewelry brings a feminine feel to my whole look. The fringe purse is another fun piece and on trend as well. You can see it in another post here. Finally, my wedge booties elevate the outfit, both literally and figuratively, making the whole look a little dressier.
I learned that wedge booties are not the best jig-dancing shoes because I lost my balance a few times, which resulted in more rounds of laughter from me and a “you’re-so-weird-mom” look from my son. Don’t judge. But please laugh.
