It’s the first Tuesday of the month which means it’s time for the Ageless Style Linkup. Our theme is keeping with the holidays and showcasing something that we could dress up or down, holiday style or holiday casual.
The Ageless Style Linkup features a group of women styling something based on one theme. The post runs the first Tuesday of each month. Please visit the other women in the linkup below for inspiration, fun and great ageless style!
I chose to dress up for this month’s linkup because I’ve been wanting to feature a birthday present that I received from my husband back in October. He picked out this cute dress for me to wear for my birthday dinner. But its deep colors also made me think of the holidays.
Ready for Cold Weather
The weather was still fairly warm when I first wore this dress in the fall so I’m making a few adjustments to make it comfortable for winter occasions. First, I’m adding tights for warmth. I wore heels with the dress before but for this holiday look, I’m wearing wedge booties for a different look.
I also added this faux fur caplet from Target. This dress is sleeveless so the caplet will keep my shoulders and upper arms warm. I think this look will work fine if you won’t be outdoors for long periods of time, but I will most likely wear a thicker and longer wool coat in the coming weeks.
Because the colors of the dress and the shawl are dark, I’m adding some lightness to this look. For a twist on the classic pearl necklace, I’m wearing a multistrand cluster pearl necklace. I love the contrast of this light necklace against the dark dress.
While my jewelry may whisper “Hey, look at me,” this clutch screams for attention. This is actually an old piece that I received as a gift from Victoria’s Secret years ago. I think it was one of those deals in which you get a free clutch if you purchase so many beauty products. I’ve kept it all these years and it always makes an appearance during the holidays.
This overall look is geared toward a dressier occasion, but you can certainly wear it to a more casual affair. Switch out the faux fur caplet for a pretty cardigan or a leather jacket. You could also add tall boots for more warmth.
The good news is that this dress can go beyond the holiday season. I can see wearing it to a wedding or another special event such as the ballet or the theater. It’s like a gift that keeps on giving, which is perfect any time of the year.
