It’s November 1st and you know what that means. You should already be done with your Christmas shopping and started your planning for Valentine’s Day! Of course, I’m being facetious, but it sure seems like retailers hurry the holidays along and I can’t stand that. I enjoy the excitement leading up to the holiday, the actual day itself and then relaxing and reminiscing with family and friends afterwards. In our 24/7 instantaneous world, it’s so nice to sit back and spend some unplanned time with those you care about the most.
Retro Style Holiday Outfit
I like to dress up on the actual holiday because I feel that special days deserve special outfits. Since Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away and then we go into full-blown Christmas celebration mode, I thought today would be a good time to start talking about holiday outfits.
This dress and cardigan combination is such an easy look to put together. I’ve had both pieces in my closet for years but they still look stylish today. With its fitted bodice and slightly fuller skirt, the dress also has a little retro vibe to it, which I love.
I picked up this dress on sale at Dress Barn years ago. It has a black and cream-colored lace overlay and is lined in black. It also has pockets, which are always handy for lipstick, tissues or keeping your hands warm. This dress is no longer available, but I’m linking to similar dresses below.
This outfit is something that would be appropriate for office holiday parties that are actually in the office. It could then go from work to an evening get together. The cardigan has sparkly embellishments that dresses it up just a little, but isn’t overly shiny for work. The wine colored clutch adds a gorgeous pop of color and its little crystal-like beads go well with the sparkles in the cardigan.
I added some subtle jewelry that a friend made a few years ago. These crystal earrings and bracelet have a smokey shade to them which matches the cardigan perfectly.
Because there’s a lot going on with the patterns and sparkles of the dress, cardigan, clutch and jewelry, I kept my heels simple. I wear these Sam Edelman heels quite a bit for work and dressy occasions. Although they are high, they have a little bit of padding inside which makes them comfortable.
To me, this is more of a laid back holiday look, but this is a dress that could certainly take you through Christmas and New Year’s. The good news is that you don’t have to store it until next year’s holiday season. Add a fitted blazer, tights and knee-high boots and you could wear this throughout the winter. The same goes for the cardigan. You could wear it with another dress or a pair of dress trousers for a different look at work. Or add a white tee and boyfriend jeans with pretty shoes and it’s a great weekend look.
That’s the beauty of classic pieces. You buy them one time and they will live on for years in many different outfit reiterations. Stay tuned because over the next few weeks, I’ll show another outfit that you could wear for holiday gatherings. Get ready because we are coming up on the most wonderful time of the year!
