On Saturday we had our first snowfall of the season and on Sunday we started planning for our summer vacation.
Not because of the snow, but because with a blended family and the schedules of four teenagers, we have to plan around schedules that are already set seven months ahead.
We had this beautiful winter scene right outside our door and we could have gone for a walk or enjoyed one of the many Christmas celebrations going on. But we didn’t. Full disclosure: both my husband and I were feeling under the weather and staying home wrapped up in our warm blankets was the perfect medicine. Still, I started thinking of how much we tend to neglect the moments that we are in.
When you’re out next, look around and you’ll most likely see someone on their phone playing games, texting or updating social media. Meanwhile, the world around them continues to happen. Who knows how much they miss with their heads buried in their phones, fingers tapping away.
I am guilty of this, too, but I am trying to enjoy my own moments more these days. In fact, that is my first resolution for the New Year, being more present in the moment. Have you started making your New Year’s resolutions?
Last week, I featured two outfits that are great for holiday gatherings. The first, which you can see here is perfect for more formal holiday gatherings. The second, here, is a little on the edgy side with its long flowing skirt and faux leather jacket. Today’s outfit features a long green suede jacket that fits as if it was made just for me. I love it when that happens!
I’m also featuring this outfit as part of December’s Thrifted Chic Style Challenge, in which we are asked to showcase our thrifted holiday finds, which can be clothes, accessories or home decor.
I picked up this jacket from the online consignment shopping website thredUP. If you read my posts, you know I’m a huge fan of thredUP. I usually go for their “New with Tags” and “Like New” items because I find so many great deals. This jacket fell into the “New With Tags” category from Express. It was less than $70 with an estimated retail of more than $220. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it when it arrived and it fit like a glove.
I can’t find this exact same jacket anywhere but I did link to a similar color and a similar, but longer, style below in case you are interested.
I paired the jacket with my new Kenneth Cole suede boots. Although I usually have trouble finding knee high boots that fit my large calves, I didn’t have any problems with these. They are a little snug around the widest part of my calf but there is a little room at the top. These heels are not very high which makes them pretty comfortable for walking.
To add some seasonal flair to this outfit, I’m carrying this gorgeous multi color purse that I picked up at a second hand store in Statesville, N.C. It has all the color of Christmas – green, red and gold – but it’s certainly something that you can carry throughout the year.
Though this purse was in a consignment shop, it was brand new. That just goes to show that you’ll never know what treasures you’ll find when you’re thrifting. I could not find a brand name on it but I did link to a similar option below.
I’m also showing you the dress I wore under the jacket. I don’t know if you can see it that well in these pictures, but it has the same green as the jacket splashed throughout. This dress is pretty old but still makes for a good foundation for an outfit.
I don’t know that there are too many people out there who own a green suede jacket. If you do, bravo! If not, you could consider adding it to your wardrobe. It’s just one way to live in the moment of the holiday season.
