Whenever someone tells me that I look younger than my 48 years, I chuckle, thank them and move along my merry way. I chalk it up to them being overly polite because I see firsthand my wrinkles, gray roots and “face jowls” every day! Still, I am very appreciative of this compliment and must admit that hearing it does make me feel young too.
Until this week, that is. I went for a run yesterday with my dog and when I got home I found that I had my pants on backwards! I didn’t even notice it during my run. Then I proceeded to put hair frizz cream all over my face. I thought it was moisturizer. But that wasn’t all. I had to pick up one of our cars from the auto shop after an oil change. As I was making my way out the door, the cashier said to me, “Thank you, sir.”
With my positive outlook on aging taking a bit of a hit this week, I thought I would wear something to bring back that youthful vibe. I love vests and my denim ones are some of my most prized possessions in my closet.
I’m wearing this vest over my gray t-shirt dress from Old Navy. My cool coral flower slides that I bought from TJ Maxx earlier this year and some orange Plunder jewelry add the perfect fall color. Just fyi, Old Navy still has this dress in stock and it’s on sale! A number of colors are available (I do receive a commission if you click and/or purchase items through my affiliate links).
But first, let’s talk about this denim vest.
This vest is a perfect addition to many outfits when the weather starts to turn a little cooler. It adds a nice layer of warmth but doesn’t make you too hot. I also like how it adds a little more structure and shape to my outfit. The gray dress alone is fine, but to me serves more as a foundation piece, rather than the main attraction. I wore a similar outfit in this post.
But my intent on wearing this denim vest was far more nefarious than simply adding structure and shape. As I’ve aged, I’ve gained rolls and bumps that should not see the light of day. However, no matter what shapewear I have on, they insist on making an appearance. So my vest helps to hide these areas. In other words, a vest, cardigan, or a light coat, can do wonders for camouflaging parts of your body that you don’t want to be seen in public. I bought this vest at Target last fall, but here is a very similar one on Amazon (I do receive a commission if you click and/or purchase items through my affiliate links).
The colors in this outfit (gray and blue) remind me of a rainy day, so I figured I would add some color. My necklace is called the Avery and it has orange beads on a teardrop shaped pendant. My earrings are the Sahil and are orange leather tassel earrings. They are as light as a feather! Finally, I’m wearing the Bailey bracelet, which has orange and turquoise beds and a magnetic closure. I apologize that I don’t have clearer pictures of my jewelry (it’s that age thing again) but if you click on the links above, you’ll be able to see the pieces up close).
You can shop for all of these Plunder jewelry pieces on my website. Click on the “Shop” button and then select the party that’s labeled cathyvseptember12017. Please note that I am an independent Stylist for Plunder and receive a commission if you purchase items through my links. Plunder has such unique and vintage-inspired jewelry at great budget-friendly prices!
I bought my coral slides from TJ Maxx online earlier this year and I love them! They are suede and have a flower design on the top. You can see the other outfit I wore them with in this post.
I featured my bag in this post last week. It’s a suede fringe bag from ThredUP, which is a fashion website that sells high quality secondhand clothes (they also sell items with their original price tags attached). Here are a few other purses in case you are interested (please note I receive a small commission if you click and/or purchase items through my affiliate links).
Despite the hits my youthful armor took this week, I feel a few years have disappeared with this thrown together outfit. The denim vest gives it a slightly cool edge and the leather and beaded jewelry add a boho vibe. My fringe purse is on trend and adds another nice pop of color. My slides, while not comfort shoes, are comfortable, and another trendy piece that doesn’t break my budget.
Try as I might, I cannot fight the telltale signs of aging, both physical and mental. But at least for one day, my face did not get frizzy! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Have a great weekend!
