Today means that there is just one more full week before my kids go back to school. It’s been nice having them around because I’ve been able to learn little things about them that I didn’t know before.
Boys To Men
For example, Jaekob is very protective of his three brothers. Hunter and I share the same dry and sarcastic humor. Chase loves grunge music, especially Nirvana, and continues to blow me away with his guitar skills. Jack may exude a tough exterior, but he has let me in on some of his inner thoughts when I’ve driven him to football practice or his friends’ houses. I will be forever grateful for these summer revelations into my kids’ lives. Despite our ups and downs, it’s been a true pleasure watching these boys grow into fine young men.
Thanks to my sons, I was able to get some photos this week to add to my earlier fall transition outfits. You can see those outfits here and here. As promised, here’s another of my fall transition outfits featuring one of fall’s popular colors.
According to the Pantone Color Institute, burgundy will be everywhere when the weather starts to turn cooler. The Pantone Color Institute is considered a global authority on color and provides professional color standards for the design industries. The PANTONE® Fashion Color Report Fall 2017 is one of two semi-annual reports published for the fashion industry by the color experts at the Institute, and it highlights the top colors for men’s and women’s fashion for the upcoming fall season for New York and, for the first time this year, London.
The fall report for New York includes “Tawny Port,” but to me, that color closely resembles burgundy. Fortunately, I already had these burgundy booties from last year that I picked up from a local shoe store (sorry, I can’t remember which one). They are comfortable and the color is vibrant, adding a nice contrast to my black, white and denim outfit. Here is a pair on Amazon that is similar and they’ve received good reviews.
I picked up this burgundy saddle bag from the Hallmark store in my town and love it! I actually bought the same bag for my sister’s birthday earlier this month and kicked myself for not getting one for me. So of course, I had to go back and buy the same one last weekend. Shhhh, my sister doesn’t know it yet…..
Anyway, I love how the booties and the bag bring a warm color to this outfit. Accessories are a great way to add a trend to your closet. You can mix and match them with other outfits and pieces in your closet so you look stylish and up-to-date. You usually don’t have to spend a lot of money on accessories. The booties were part of a buy one get one for 50% off deal and the bag was less than $35.
I wore this outfit mid-week when the weather was beginning to get just a little cooler. I don’t wear maxi skirts a ton in the summer because it’s just too hot. But I love pulling them out in the spring and the fall because they help to keep me warm but they’re not too thick to stifle me. This maxi skirt is an early summer buy from Dress Barn. I love its paisley pattern and the black and white colors make it an easy piece to pair with other colors. This one is no longer available on Dress Barn’s website, but here is a similar skirt.
It’s All in the Details
I usually have trouble finding the perfect t-shirt to wear with maxi skirts. Tucking them in doesn’t work for me because that shortens my torso. Leaving them out gives my outfit no structure. But this tie-front tee from J. Crew is perfect. It cinches at the waist so that area is defined. I also like how the ties hang slightly below the waist; it’s just a neat little detail that draws the eye in. J. Crew doesn’t have this top available anymore but here are a few similar ones.
You’ve seen me layer a summer dress with a denim vest before in this post. This time, I pulled out my blue denim vest that I picked up from Target last year (this was on one of my I-just-need-to-buy-some-milk-and-eggs runs). I’ve gotten a lot of use out of this vest and it’s still going strong! It’s the perfect piece to add when the day can’t decide if it wants to be hot or cool. Adding this vest kept my upper body warm during the cooler parts of the day but didn’t suffocate me when it turned warmer. This particular vest is no longer available at Target, but I’m linking to some similar ones at the end of this post. I also love Levi’s and Amazon has this vest available. It is a junior’s size, but seems to fit adults according to the size chart.
To add some interest to my white top I wore the Jane pearl and chain necklace. It actually comes with a lobster claw to add a pendant but I liked how the necklace looked on its own. I also wore the matching Paige pearl and antique gold bracelet as well as the Pippa brown leather cuff (I love denim and leather!).
My earrings are the Antique Gold earrings from Plunder. I’m really loving these longer earrings because they show up so much better with longer hair. These earrings are so light that it’s hard to tell I’m wearing them.
You can purchase all of these Plunder Design jewelry pieces on my website. Click the Shop button under my name. If you are asked to select a “party,” be sure to choose the one titled “CathyVAugust12017.”
So there’s my roundup of a few ways you can start to transition your summer outfits to fall looks. It just takes a few pieces that you may already have in your closet to make the move and a new perspective when looking through your clothes. Suddenly, something old becomes new again, and that is what I call a style revelation!
