Happy Labor Day! Today celebrates the hard work and achievements that American workers make to the strength, well-being and prosperity of our great nation. We have celebrated Labor Day since 1894 when Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories. It’s a great tribute to our workforce and I am so honored and thankful that I have the opportunities I’ve had in my professional life and with this blog to forge my own career path and contribute to our country in my own small way.
Speaking of work, today I’m showing you another outfit that I wore to the office last week. It wasn’t a high level meeting so I felt comfortable going in with something a little more casual than a blazer and skirt or a full blown suit. However, I could have easily thrown on a blazer and taken this outfit up a notch or two.
I’ve had all of these pieces in my closet for several years. In my younger days, I was never a fan of flower patterns on my clothes, but they began to grow on me (no pun intended) as I got older. The femininity that they add to an outfit is appealing, and every now and then a girl just wants to feel girly, know what I mean? Here’s another outfit I wore with a floral top that has a modern feel to it.
Today’s floral top with its muted colors also feels modern to me. The top is a silk blouse that I picked up at Marshalls. It has a blue background with pale flowers printed all over it. Florals are a big trend for the fall and this top fits right in.
This is a great blouse to wear year round. For spring and summer, it can be paired with white, pale gray or light pink pants or skirts. For fall and winter, it goes perfectly with darker colors such as the navy blue skirt I have on in these photos. As I mentioned, this top is old, but below are a few similar options. The skirt is a soft knit material and moves easily. It also has a slight flare at the bottom, adding interest and a touch more femininity to this outfit.
Modern Mixed With Tradition
I love jewelry that combines silver and pearls. The silver brings a modern feel to the pieces and the pearls a more traditional touch. My earrings, which you can’t see, are simple drop pearls, and my wrap bracelet has pearls on a silver wire. My necklace is no longer available from Plunder but click here to see all of the other necklaces that Plunder offers.
I’ve opened a new party on the Plunder website under the name CathyVSeptember12017 so be sure to select that name if you’d like to shop for Plunder jewelry. I am an independent Stylist with Plunder and receive a small commission if you purchase items through my links. All of my jewelry is old except for the necklace.
I’m also wearing a silver chain belt to give my waist some definition and bring just a little more sparkle to this outfit. This belt is old but a wardrobe staple for me.
My bag is a new purchase from a few weeks ago. It’s a gray bag with silver accents and picks up the silver from my other accessories beautifully. I bought this bag at Payless on clearance. It can be worn as a crossbody or the strap can be detached and used as a clutch.
My shoes are my trusty Clarks wedges. This particular style is no longer available, but this pair is almost the exact same style with the exception of the heel (please note that I receive a small commission if you purchase items through my affiliate link). Mine has a cork heel, but the pair on Amazon has more of a stacked wood heel. Clarks are my go-to shoes because of their comfort.
This is an easy outfit to put together on those days when you want to look professional but a little more casual and comfortable. You may already have the base pieces such as the top and skirt. Add a few silver or gold accessories to make your ensemble shine a little and you’re ready to go.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. It really is a labor of love for me. I hope you’re able to enjoy today’s holiday with some rest and relaxation!
