I’d give up chocolate but I’m not a quitter.
This is a saying that is painted on a plaque in our house. I love it because it’s so tongue in cheek. But it’s also true. Chocolate is my number one addiction. I don’t care what kind of diet or exercise plan I’m on, I just can’t give it up. It tastes good, it feels good, it looks good. Why would I want to give something like that up?
I felt the same away about the dress I’m showing you today. This was something handpicked for me by the owner of a consignment boutique downtown a few years ago. I fell in love with its fall-like colors, its casual vibe and retro feel. But when I got home, it didn’t love me as much because I struggled with making it look just right on me every time I wore it.
When I wore it alone, I felt that it was missing something. I threw a short blazer over it and didn’t like how the blazer covered up half of the dress. But a long blazer made the proportions of the whole outfit feel wrong. No matter what I did, I couldn’t make it look right on me. But I couldn’t quite give up on it either. I loved everything about the dress; I just needed to find the right companion piece for it.
But I never thought to try this dress with a vest, let alone a faux fur vest. It would cover up some of the dress, but not all of it, letting its vibrant colors show from top to bottom. While I wanted the colors to take the spotlight, I also wanted to break the stripes up a little and the longer length on this vest seemed right for that job. Also, the color matched with the brown in the dress. Plus, it’s a perfect layering piece for fall and will keep me warm but not overheated. I could also see this vest with a few other outfits for the fall and winter.
I ordered it. In my opinion, it’s one of those matches made in heaven. Like Bogart and Bacall. Peanut butter and jelly. Chocolate and me.
