When our family first adopted our dog Harper a little over a year ago, we weren’t sure what to expect. She was afraid of everything and ran away from all of us. But with constant and reassuring TLC, she became my sidekick and eventually warmed up to my husband and sons.
I don’t know what happened to Harper during the first few months of her life, or if it was just the unknown environment of the shelter that scared her so much. All I now is that the dog that is part of our family now is a completely different dog than the one we brought home from the shelter. Was it just the TLC that changed her? I think that’s part of it, but I also believe it was reassuring her constantly that we would not hurt her, leave her, or yell at her.
I wonder what our world would be like today if we treated everyone like this. Would our friends and family always be overjoyed to see us no matter what their day was like? Would we be paying compliments to each other instead of insults? Would loyalty be more prevalent? Dogs can teach us so much, can’t they?
My outfit today involves pieces that have received a lot of TLC from me through the years. I bought this olive safari jacket from Loft a long time ago. With proper care and cleaning, it still looks like new today. This style is a classic piece that is always fashionable. It is 96 percent cotton and 4 percent spandex so it’s breathable, stretchable, and always comfortable no matter the season.
To herald in the warm colors of fall, I paired my jacket with a simple brown sheath that I’ve also had for years. This sleeveless style is so easy to wear during any season. It’s polyester and is thin so it doesn’t add bulk to your outfit.
This jewelry is making its second appearance on my blog. I featured it in a casual look in Friday’s post. Plunder Design’s jewelry is so versatile that you can wear it with just about any outfit style. The necklace is the Avery from Plunder and is an orange bead teardrop. The orange earrings are leather tassels. They are extremely light and do not pull down on my ears. You can see all of these pieces through the links at the end of this post.
I did not get the best closeup of my bracelet, but I hope you can see some of the colors in the photo below. This is called the Bailey melon and turquoise gemmed bracelet with a magnetic closure. It is a perfect match to the other jewelry pieces and the clothes in this outfit.
My shoes are simple nude color pumps to keep the focus on my outfit and to help elongate my legs. These are not as high as my other nude pumps, but they still offer some nice height and are comfortable to walk in. These are the Comfort Plus by Predictions brand that I love. I have them in red (see that post here) and in teal (seen here).
My purse is another old piece that has stood the test of time. I thought the rust color coordinated nicely with my orange jewelry. The rust is a nice color to add to your fall outfits. I’ve linked to another rust color bag below.
You may be thinking that you’ve seen a similar outfit somewhere before. Well, you have, and it was on me in this post! This is one of my work “uniforms” that I turn to whenever I’m at a loss for what to wear. I love to layer a unique jacket over a simple dress such as a sheath or a shirt dress. It is comfortable, stylish and professional.
All of these pieces except for my jewelry and shoes are several years old. When I purchase pieces that I know will be in style year after year, I make sure to give them some TLC because I know that I will wear them several times over the course of a year. The shoes are just a reorder of an exact same pair that I had for a long time until Harper got a hold of one of them. But I would gladly trade in any shoe for the great dog that we have today.
