“A glamorous woman is always elegant, but she also possesses an air of mystery and excitement.” – Ralph Lauren
I love this quote, especially the “air of mystery,” because I think that is one of the most important accessories for a woman (the other is her smile). In my opinion, there should be an air of mystery about a woman and the outfit she chooses to present to the world. I like to think I cultivate some mystery in what I don’t show to the world. In other words, I prefer not to reveal every inch of my body; I think modesty speaks volumes about who I am and what I represent. I am not saying that I walk about covered completely in a blanket, but for me, I like things that provide some cover, while still celebrating the female body.

I’ve lived in Virginia for 35 years and I love it. But I probably would not have come here had it not been for my dad, who retired in Virginia after a 20-year career in the Air Force.
As the oldest child, I got to experience my dad’s assignments all over the United States as well as overseas. The only place I did not go was to Vietnam during the war. We moved back to Guam to stay with family while he was there. I remember hearing his voice on cassette tapes that he would send to my mom. We would listen to them in a bedroom. I was so young that I don’t remember much of what he said, but I do remember trying to talk to him in the tape recorder. It was a real treat to hear his voice after not seeing him or knowing when he would return.

I have mixed feelings about a swing dress. When I see them on other women, they look wonderful. When I see one on me, I cringe. On my body, they seem shapeless and frumpy. But this black one from J. Jill is so comfortable, I can’t kick it out of my closet. The material skims the body, is extremely soft, moves easily and is the perfect lightweight dress for summer. The length is just right, hitting slightly above my knees. Although you can’t see it, there is a cute inverted pleat on the back, giving this dress a little something extra to stand out among its colleagues. Did I say how comfortable it is? I could sleep in this dress! Continue reading “Accessories Rescue a Black Swing Dress”
Our dog, Harper, tried running away this weekend and we were terrified. Luckily, she didn’t get far, thanks to some strangers who helped to catch her. I guess if I had a bunch of strangers running at me yelling and trying to grab me, I’d run away, too. We are just happy that Harper was not successful in her escape attempt.
One thing I’ll never run away from are polka dots, especially a polka dot dress. I love the sheath style of this dress! It’s figure skimming, but not low cut, too high or too tight.

One of my “unofficial” tasks in my last job was to help individuals figure out what to wear to work. It wasn’t part of my duties as assigned, but more often than not, my boss would ask me to speak to someone about their outfit choices. It wasn’t an easy task, but I tried my best to help them consider appropriate clothes for their position and the organization. Continue reading “Black Sheath Dress To Wear To Work”
Every morning, my husband gives me a call as he’s on his way to his office. You’d think we wouldn’t have much to say because we talk to each other all morning long as we’re getting ready. But we do! It could be something we forgot to mention, something that came up between the time he left the house and when he calls, or he just calls to say he loves me (cue Stevie Wonder). Our calls last for just a few minutes and then we both get on with our day. But the other day, he called me a second time later in the morning with an interesting request: Please bring me some pants.
