The other night my best friend – a woman I’ve known for 43 years – called me. She actually Facetimed me, so I was tickled pink when I saw her name come up on my phone and it was a bonus to see her. Because of the schedules of our two families as well as distance (she lives in another state), it has been many years since we last visited each other.
Hey! Guess what’s on TV right now?
“The Sound of Music!” I said without hesitation. It was indeed being broadcast and we both laughed after I said it.

On Saturday we had our first snowfall of the season and on Sunday we started planning for our summer vacation.
Not because of the snow, but because with a blended family and the schedules of four teenagers, we have to plan around schedules that are already set seven months ahead. Continue reading “Enjoy the Moments of the Season in a Green Suede Jacket”
I woke up early Saturday morning to learn that I had won the Thrifted Chic Style Challenge from last week! Excited can’t even begin to describe how I felt. This was my first-ever contest for a style challenge and my first win. Continue reading “Thrifted Chic Style Challenge Winner!”
In one of my English courses at George Mason University, my professor made us watch the famed 1954 Japanese movie Seven Samauri. We were studying Japanese culture at the time and his lesson was centered on the similarities between that movie and the spaghetti westerns that became popular in the mid-1960s. Seven Samauri was actually remade into the American movie, The Magnificent Seven, but there is one name synonymous with spaghetti westerns. C’mon, take a guess. But first, you’ve got to ask yourself one question. Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya? Continue reading “Make My Day with Leopard Boots and a Blanket Poncho”
My husband and I seem to be getting to a point in our lives where we want to make everything as easy and comfortable as possible. Our goal is for us to enjoy more quality time with our kids. With two of them graduating from high school this year, this time is even more important to us. Our motto is if someone/something can do it better and faster, let ’em at it! I was cutting up chicken for a new chicken pot pie recipe yesterday when my husband walks in the door from work. Right behind him came the roofing contractor working on our neighbor’s house. The two of them proceeded to talk about our own future roof replacement, which we have not yet scheduled but hope to within the next few weeks.
They start to ask me what color I want the shingles to be, whether I want them dark or light, whether we are planning to get the siding on the house replaced as well and what color the siding should be, yada yada yada. By now, the shallots are sizzling on my stove and I’m trying to follow the recipe in the magazine before me. Wine, it calls for a little bit of white wine.

My sister-in-law invited me and my husband on a trip to Paris sometime within the next few years. We have not been there but she and her husband travel frequently and have visited the City of Love. With four boys in high school and college on the horizon, we are not sure exactly when we’ll be able to make this trip, but it’s nice to plan and look forward to it sometime down the road.
