Whenever someone tells me that I look younger than my 48 years, I chuckle, thank them and move along my merry way. I chalk it up to them being overly polite because I see firsthand my wrinkles, gray roots and “face jowls” every day! Still, I am very appreciative of this compliment and must admit that hearing it does make me feel young too.
Until this week, that is. I went for a run yesterday with my dog and when I got home I found that I had my pants on backwards! I didn’t even notice it during my run. Then I proceeded to put hair frizz cream all over my face. I thought it was moisturizer. But that wasn’t all. I had to pick up one of our cars from the auto shop after an oil change. As I was making my way out the door, the cashier said to me, “Thank you, sir.” Continue reading “Fall Layers With A Denim Vest”
Last week, one of my neighbor’s kids knocked on my door in the middle of the afternoon. When I opened it, he said “We are selling lemonade and muffins. Do you want some?” I looked across my yard and sure enough, there was his brother and another neighbor’s daughter sitting at two tables loaded with goodies, an umbrella to keep the sun at bay and a few handwritten signs. I told him I needed to get some money and would be right over. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one who they queried. The kids took turns running up and down the street, knocking on doors, asking people to come outside and have some lemonade and muffins. They had all their earnings in a Mason jar. I loved that these little entrepreneurs were trying their hands at the American Dream. Maybe they will expand their operation next year to run all summer long. I’ve talked before on this blog about all the unique places in our downtown. I am amazed that for as long as I’ve lived here, I still find little nooks and crannies that I have never seen before. That happened to my husband and me after we went out to dinner earlier this week. We like to explore after our meal just to see what’s new in town. After pulling into a parking area so we could walk around, he noticed this little pathway between two buildings. It was lined with shrubs and had climbing plants on one wall and the lattice at the back. It connected two different parking areas between buildings, but really led nowhere special. Still, standing on this pathway made us feel as if we were in a secret garden. It was magical.

When I want an outfit that is comfortable, stylish, not too dressy but not overly casual either, a denim dress never fails. I bought this dress last summer from J.Crew, and it is on frequent rotation in my closet from spring through the early days of fall. In fact, I wore it on a road trip this weekend to my parent’s house. This is a great dress for when I am working from home the whole day, but it’s one that I can also run some quick errands in and feel put together. Continue reading “A Denim Dress Never Fails”
One of my favorite colors is red. I’ve always known that it is an emotionally intense color, signifying passion, danger, strength, power and love. If I had to pick a color to describe my life these last few years, I can think of no other color than red. My family has gone through many ups and downs. I met the love of my life. I’ve gained new relationships and have lost some as well. I left a successful career and embarked on a new calling. These are all pretty significant milestones in anyone’s life. I know I’m not the only one experiencing such events. I bet all of us have a little red in our lives! Continue reading “How To Wear A Leopard Shirt and Red Pants”
When I first met my husband, “gardener” is not a word I would have used to describe him. Ever. To me, he was a city slicker with an affinity for the same cocktail, same local restaurants, and a love of celebrating anything and everything, He was definitely not someone who wanted to get dirt under his fingernails. Or so I thought. His garden has now taken over a good piece of our backyard and we enjoy fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and many other vegetables all summer long. This hidden layer beneath my husband’s urban exterior is a welcome surprise to me and adds another unique dimension to his personality. Continue reading “Adding Layers With A Denim Vest”
It’s been a long week with my son’s surgery, two other sons out of town, and our last one needing rides all over town to meet up with his friends or to attend meetings for fall sports. While my son’s surgery was pretty stressful because he was in so much pain, it did give me a chance to talk and laugh with him (once he started feeling better). While I wish he didn’t have to go through the surgery, I am grateful for the chance to reconnect with him. Our teens are so busy these days, it’s hard to always get that quality one-on-one time with any of them. After our busy week, I am ready for a relaxing weekend! I think that a maxi dress is the perfect outfit to wear for comfort and style when you want to relax but still need to look decent.

I have a thing for second-hand clothes. I love that I’m saving money. I love that I may find something unique. I love the thrill of the hunt for something that is new to me. So you can imagine how excited I was to discover thredUP, the online store for high quality second-hand clothes. But I know you couldn’t hear me squeal when I found a dress that still had its original price tags attached. I mean, I knew thredUP sold used clothes, including designer brands, but new items, with the tags still attached, and at a fraction of its original cost? I was almost speechless (that’s because I was squealing).

My son, Hunter, has a great sense of humor, so when I asked him if he could take pictures of me for the blog, I knew that I’d be laughing throughout the two sessions we had planned one evening. And I was right! Continue reading “Tropical Prints and White Denim Jeans”
As a mom who works part-time from home with a long to-do list, it can be easy to succumb to the pajama uniform for the day. I will usually start working as soon as my husband and kids leave the house in the mornings and the next thing I know, it’s almost lunchtime! And. I’m. Still. In. My. Pajamas. Not a good look during daylight hours.
Although I am not a huge fan of leggings, I would be lying to you if I said my closet didn’t include a few sets of both ankle leggings for cooler months and capris leggings for spring and summer. I’ll admit, not only are they comfortable, but they make figuring out what to wear sooooo easy! Continue reading “How To Wear Leggings and Denim in the Summer”
