A quote by American author Alice Hoffman sums up how I feel about the color red: “How could I have been so stupid to have ignored everything I’d had in my life? The color red alone was worth kingdoms.” I couldn’t agree more. Red is my favorite color. According to the fashion experts, we will be seeing a lot of this color in the coming months.
Last week, one of my neighbor’s kids knocked on my door in the middle of the afternoon. When I opened it, he said “We are selling lemonade and muffins. Do you want some?” I looked across my yard and sure enough, there was his brother and another neighbor’s daughter sitting at two tables loaded with goodies, an umbrella to keep the sun at bay and a few handwritten signs. I told him I needed to get some money and would be right over. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one who they queried. The kids took turns running up and down the street, knocking on doors, asking people to come outside and have some lemonade and muffins. They had all their earnings in a Mason jar. When I first met my husband, “gardener” is not a word I would have used to describe him. Ever. To me, he was a city slicker with an affinity for the same cocktail, same local restaurants, and a love of celebrating anything and everything, He was definitely not someone who wanted to get dirt under his fingernails. Or so I thought. His garden has now taken over a good piece of our backyard and we enjoy fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and many other vegetables all summer long. This hidden layer beneath my husband’s urban exterior is a welcome surprise to me and adds another unique dimension to his personality. Continue reading “Adding Layers With A Denim Vest”
I have a thing for second-hand clothes. I love that I’m saving money. I love that I may find something unique. I love the thrill of the hunt for something that is new to me. So you can imagine how excited I was to discover thredUP, the online store for high quality second-hand clothes. But I know you couldn’t hear me squeal when I found a dress that still had its original price tags attached. I mean, I knew thredUP sold used clothes, including designer brands, but new items, with the tags still attached, and at a fraction of its original cost? I was almost speechless (that’s because I was squealing).
My son, Hunter, has a great sense of humor, so when I asked him if he could take pictures of me for the blog, I knew that I’d be laughing throughout the two sessions we had planned one evening. And I was right! Continue reading “Tropical Prints and White Denim Jeans”
